Pastoral Internship

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.  1 Peter 5:1-4

The purpose for the pastoral internship at Roots is to prepare and train men who aspire to the office of elder. The pastoral internship is designed to expose leaders to the ordinary rhythms of the pastorate and general operations of our local church. Admission into and/or completion of this internship should not be considered affirmation of calling into the pastorate. God ordains, not us. The internship will simply provide an occasion for those who aspire the office can experience the normal rhythms of the office and time to discern God's direction and calling. The internship will also provide an opportunity for meaningful discipleship and feedback from others who are watching their lives and their work.

Although far from glamorous or flashy, we feel that ministry in the local church is one of the greatest privileges given to redeemed man. Therefore we take this opportunity to train future leaders with the upmost care and weight.
